Details for New Drogheda Stadium, Drogheda

The New Drogheda Stadium is a soccer stadium proposed to be built in Drogheda for Drogheda United Football Club. The stadium would hold ten thousand people at its capacity and would have bars, restaurants, press boxes and a large TV gantry.

The plan was proposed in 2007 when the owners of Drogheda United took notice of how small their current ground, United Park is (just 2,000 capacity, only 400 seats and one of the smallest stadiums in the country).

The stadium plan went a step closer when Drogheda United won the League of Ireland Premier Division that year.

In June 2008 plans were given to the Louth County Council for the construction of the new stadium. However, their planning application was refused and the construction was stalled.

The stadium was planned to be built off the M1 motorway which goes from Dublin to Belfast, but planning was not approved.

Due to Drogheda's recent financial trouble the project has been put back.
