Since 2015, the stadium has also been a venue for the South Africa Sevens rugby tournaments.

The previous stadium was demolished in 2007, and in 2015, the remaining site of it was redeveloped into the Green Point Athletics Stadium that has a capacity of 4,500 seats.

In 2010, the stadium had a capacity of 64,100 to provide enough place for the World Cup.
